The 96th annual Oscars commenced with host Jimmy Kimmel’s vibrant monologue, marking his fourth stint as emcee for the illustrious event. Kimmel kicked off the evening with his trademark wit and charm, engaging the audience with humorous anecdotes and observations.

Addressing the earlier start time and notorious length of the ceremony, Kimmel quipped about the show’s tendency to run late despite the adjusted schedule. He also playfully highlighted the notable absence of Greta Gerwig’s directorial nomination for “Barbie,” jokingly implicating the audience in the decision-making process.

Drawing laughs from the crowd, Kimmel humorously pointed out the presence of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, dubbing them “Barbie and Ken” for the evening and acknowledging their genetic blessings regardless of their potential Oscar wins.

Injecting some political commentary into his monologue, Kimmel referenced Emma Stone’s role in “Poor Things” and humorously likened it to a recent political event, eliciting chuckles from the audience.

Towards the end of his monologue, Kimmel addressed the industry’s challenges, including the WGA and SAG strikes, and expressed solidarity with the laborers who work tirelessly behind the scenes. He warmly welcomed a group of union workers onto the stage, acknowledging their contributions and leading the audience in a standing ovation.

In a lighthearted nod to the ceremony’s tendency to run long, Kimmel assured the laborers of ample overtime opportunities, earning cheers and applause from the audience.

Reflecting on his role as host, Kimmel likened it to taking a flight, emphasizing the importance of a smooth and enjoyable experience for both himself and the viewers.

Kimmel’s previous hosting experiences in 2017, 2018, and 2023 were mentioned, underscoring his familiarity and comfort in leading the prestigious event. With his characteristic humor and warmth, Kimmel set the tone for an entertaining and memorable evening at the Oscars.
